The Life of Riley - A Novel. By D.J.Baldwin
"Everybody has a novel in them..." Well, this is mine. 'The Life of Riley'.
It's good. In fact I think it's fantastic (in the literal sense), but for some reason every editor, publisher and literary agent to whom I have submitted it for publication, does not agree.
I hope that, after you have read it, you will agree with me. Either that or give me some feed back as to why Editors, Agents and Publishers are worth their salaries.
I admit that the editing could be better, the writing may not be up to the standard of the great literary giants like J.K. Rowling or Phillip Pullman, or Enid Blyton... but it is a damned good story, and I believe that that is what really counts.
If you can't be arsed to read it, I am serialising it as a series of Podcasts, one chapter at a time, so you can listen to it on your mp3 player or iPod, whenever you like. This process is in the early stages as I am still in the infants school of Blogging and Podcasting, but hopefully I will get better in time. Mind you, at my age, I don't seem to have as much of that rare commodity as I used to have.
The genre of the novel has been described as 'Picaresque' (not by me I might add). Which is defined on WordWeb as - "Involving a clever rogue or adventurer, especially as in a type of fiction". Which I suppose is fair comment. But the book is so much more than that. You'll have to read it to find out how much more! Or of course you can listen to it as a Podcast (Click the links below). If you can stand the sound of my voice, that is! Which I openly admit I can't!.
Test podcast (ignore this, it's just me testing a feed. Or feeding a test).
